The 30-something Levine came of age in the mid-1990s just like the film's protagonist -- Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) -- and the payoff is authenticity. |

| Review: 'Father' a bummer of a good film Thu, 07 Aug 2008 22:37:00 PST "And When Did You Last See Your Father?" is a very good film if you are willing to sit through 90 minutes of death, heartache, cancer, migraines, repression, family secrets, adultery and good old-fashioned British cranks. The film explores some pretty dark and sad territory. There are very few smiles, and many of those are mean-spirited. I think there might have been one joke in there, but they get the levity over with fairly quickly and move onto the meat of the story. Which is: Based on a memoir of the same name, it is about British Blake Morrison, (Colin Firth) a married father of two and poet. His father and mother, Arthur (Jim Broadbent) and Kim, (Juliet Stevenson) are both doctors who, we learn though flashbacks, have had a difficult marriage, marred by Arthur's constant philandering. |
